2022 MAMA Awards Announces Twitter Votes Will No Longer Count Towards Awards

The 2022 MAMA Awards has announced a change to its judging criteria for this year’s awards.

On November 9, Mnet officially announced that “due to internal changes within Twitter,” which was recently acquired by Elon Musk, they are no longer able to accurately count Twitter votes, and so they will no longer be factored into determining the winners of this year’s MAMA Awards.

Originally, the MAMA Awards announced that both the Worldwide Icon of the Year and Worldwide Fans’ Choice awards would be based 10 percent on Twitter votes, with Worldwide Icon of the Year also factoring in an additional 10 percent for Twitter votes cast during the live broadcast.

However, Twitter votes will no longer be counted for either award this year. Both Mnet Plus and Spotify votes will still count, and the ratio used in determining this year’s awards will remain the same with the exception of this new exclusion.

Thank you for your interest and support for the voting of 2022 MAMA Awards.

We would like to inform you that the judging criteria for the “Worldwide Icon of the Year” and “Worldwide Fans’ Choice Category” [awards] has been revised.

Due to internal changes within Twitter, it has become impossible to secure and collect voting data made through Twitter for the pre-vote of 2022 MAMA Awards.

As a result, we would like to inform you that the judging criteria for 2022 MAMA Awards has been changed to the following:

*Only Twitter votes will be excluded without any adjustment of the ratio of Mnet Plus and Spotify votes.

We sincerely apologize for not being able to reflect the voices of global K-pop fans sent through the Twitter voting during the pre-vote stage.

MAMA Awards will continue to make efforts to ensure a fair voting through objective data.

The 2022 MAMA Awards will take place on November 29 and 30 at Osaka’s Kyocera Dome in Japan.
