Backstage Information Regarding The Elite’s AEW Return

The Elite will come back to AEW at Full Gear to compete for the AEW World Trios Championships against Death Triangle. This follows Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks’ absence from the firm for a prolonged period of time following their post-All Out backstage brawl with CM Punk. As a result, The Elite’s Trios Titles, which they had merely won at All Out, were revoked. Whereas the Young Bucks did not appear on-screen at last night’s AEW Dynamite, as per reports, they were present backstage.

Death Triangle instead subtly hinted at meeting The Elite at the pay-per-view this Saturday, with a new graphic appearing to reveal Death Triangle vs. The Elite as finally signed. Despite their presence backstage Wednesday, the plan has always been for The Elite to return at Full Gear and not before, now that the waters have calmed a little.

Speaking of backstage appearance, Kenny Omega’s right-hand man Don Callis has already been making his presence known on several occasions in recent weeks. As has become the norm over the years, he is expected to accompany Omega once more upon his return. Omega had only returned recently to action in the weeks prior to All Out, joining the Bucks in the brackets of the AEW World Trios Championship tournament after becoming sidelined for several years due to a series of major injuries.

AEW’s All Out

Having followed the backstage physical altercation at AEW’s All Out, CM Punk’s future in the professional wrestling business is very much in doubt. With reports that AEW is negotiating to buy out his contract, speculation about his return to WWE has begun, but according to Dave Meltzer on the most recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, there are people in the company who do not want Punk to join.

There is no verb on who those folks are, but Meltzer stated that they are not part of the creative team, and that the decision to bring Punk back would ultimately be made by Paul Levesque, Stephanie McMahon, & Nick Khan. Of course, the veteran WWE Champion himself would be interested in making a rebound, and it is worth noting that he is currently out with a triceps injury.

Punk is still technically on the AEW roster, and Tony Khan has refused to comment on the former two-time AEW World Heavyweight Champion since All Out. Nevertheless, the internal investigation into the backstage incident is now complete, with Ace Steel released and The Elite set to return to the ring at Full Gear this weekend.
