“Ildangbaek Butler” (literal title) tells the story of Butler Kim, who runs errands that begin at a cost of 100 won (approximately 10 cents) per job, and funeral director Baek Dong Joo, who grants the wishes of the dead, as they operate an errand-running business called Ildangbaek (meaning one person doing the work of 100, and in this specific case, also referring to the fact that one errand costs 100 won).
Hyeri will take on the role of Baek Dong Joo, who possesses a strange ability to communicate with the deceased. Unless the deceased’s last wish is fulfilled, she has to spend the whole day with no luck. Lee Jun Young will play Butler Kim, the only employee and ace at the daily errands service Ildangbaek. He gets entangled with the strange Baek Dong Joo and starts working together on a project that transcends life and death.
The drama’s very first teaser poster captured the first meeting between Baek Dong Joo and Butler Kim, while the main poster shows a subtle shift in their relationship as they sit together on the steps outside. The awkward duo doesn’t know each other very well yet so they stare off at different things, lost in their own trains of thought. The caption above them reads, “An unusual woman has met an unusual man.”
Contrasting the main poster is the new couple poster, where Baek Dong Joo and Butler Kim enjoy a lovely summer day as they look off into the distance together. Their soft smiles are even brighter than the shining sun, creating an adorable and heart-fluttering atmosphere.
The two phrases on the poster read “MAY I HELP YOU?” and “Life and death mutual aid romance.” Although Baek Dong Joo and Butler Kim team up for business purposes, a key point of interest in this drama will be their romantic chemistry and how they grow closer to better help those in the after life.
MBC’s “Ildangbaek Butler” premieres on October 19 at 9:50 p.m. KST!
