NBA: Magic take Paolo Banchero with No. 1 general choose in draft

NEW YORK–The Orlando Magic chosen Duke ahead Paolo Banchero with the primary general choose of the NBA Draft on Thursday evening in New York with Gonzaga large man Chet Holmgren going to the Oklahoma Metropolis Thunder and Auburn ahead Jabari Smith headed to the Houston Rockets.

The 6-foot-10 Banchero averaged 17.2 factors and seven.8 rebounds per recreation as a freshman final season for Duke. He additionally contributed defensively with 41 steals and 36 blocked pictures.

Banchero is the fourth Duke participant to be the No. 1 general choose. The others are Elton Model (1999 by the Chicago Bulls), Kyrie Irving (2011, Cleveland Cavaliers) and Zion Williamson (2019, New Orleans Pelicans).

The Magic went 22-60 final season, the second-worst file within the NBA. Orlando received the correct to choose first within the draft lottery.
