Detention is assessed on five scholars at Bayview High Simon (Mark McKenna), Addy (Annalisa Cochrane), Cooper (Chibuikem Uche), Bronwyn (Marian Tejada), and Nate (Cooper van Grootel). Simon, who’s known for founding an online gossip group with his friend Janae (Jessica McLeod) in order to snitch on his classmates, suffers a fatal antipathetic response. The other four scholars each had their own reasons for killing Simon, and after it’s determined that his death wasn’t an accident, a disquisition is launched. Each of them had reason to be concerned that their secrets would be revealed in Simon’s coming communication. Bronwyn (Marian Tejada), a sharp teenager who was not as pure as she’d feel; Cooper (Chibuikem Uche), a sensation baseball player who has been in the closet; Addy (Annalisa Cochrane), a cheerleader who’s cheating on her long- term swain; and Nate (Cooper van Grootel), a small-time heroin addict whose coming wrongdoing could land him in a jail cell.

The book employs multiperspective to depict the perspectives of all four student suspects. It has won numerous awards, including a 166-week run on the New York Times best-seller list. One of Us Is Next, a sequel, was released on January 7, 2020, and a television series adaptation premiered on October 7, 2021. One of Us Is Lying has received good reviews and multiple awards and nominations, primarily in the Young Adult classification. Common Sense Media reviewer Mary Cosola comments that the plot “raises a lot of ethical questions” and “provides good discussion topics,” giving the film four stars overall and an age rating of 14+.
