Jane Campion wrote and directed The Power of the Dog, a 2021 Western psychological drama film. It is based on Thomas Savage’s novel of the same name, published in 1967. Love, sadness, wrath, jealousy, and sexuality are all explored in The Power of the Dog. On September 2, 2021, Campion received the Silver Lion for Best Direction at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, when The Power of the Dog had its world debut. The film had a limited theatrical release in November 2021, then on December 1, 2021, it was made available to view worldwide on Netflix. Power Of The Dog Story
Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch), a well-educated ranch owner in 1925 Montana, surrounds himself with adoring young cowboys who revere him for his talent, intellect, and toughness. Phil feels intimidated and jealous when his quiet brother George (Jesse Plemons) marries boarding-house owner Rose (Kirsten Dunst), and he takes his rage out on Rose and her small, awkward son Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee). As Phil, Rose, and Peter all take significant moves, some more subtle than others, tensions mount and dip.
