He also played Dr. Harry Harper on BBC’s Casualty for 6 years. Simon started and ended his career on stage in London’s West End, appearing in The Sound of Music in 2009. Simon’s first marriage was to Fiona Fullerton in 1976, and he married Susan George less than ten years later. He had hoped to continue in his father’s footsteps into the RAF, but owing to his failing eyesight, he chose a different route. Simon MacCorkindale, who was 58 years old at the time of his death, died of cancer.

Simon was claimed to have died in October 2010 in the arms of his wife, Susan, at a London clinic.

The actor disclosed in 2009 that he was diagnosed with bowel, or colon, cancer in 2006, but that he didn’t find out until a year later that it had travelled to his lungs that it was fatal.
